Water Cooled Ice Machines

water cooled ice machine

Water cooled ice machines use regular water to cool the machine, which is more effective way than air cooling, because it keeps the heat out of the building, but the water waste dramatically increases water bills. Water cooled ice machines use less energy than air cooling. However energy savings & effective water cooling never make up for theĀ  water & sewer costs. That’s why air cooled ice machines are more convenient pieces of commercial ice making equipment.

Air cooled ice machines are environmentally friendly and are qualified for ENERGY STAR. The heat from an air cooled ice machine increases air temperature at your kitchen and makes your air conditioning work harder. There is a solution to the heat accumulation problem, if you get a remote condenser ice making equipment the source of excess heat will be moved outside of the building and you will save even more money on air conditioning bills. Even with the higher air conditioning bills, air cooled ice machine is more cost efficient than water cooled ice ones. Water cooled ice machines consume over 100 gallons of water per 100 lbs of ice. Usually water cooled ice making equipment use about 2-5 kWh less energy per 100 lbs of ice. Keep in mind that the extra water use increases your sewer bill as.

Because of low water reserves in Austin, Denver, Seattle, Santa Fe, Phoenix and San Antonio have banned single pass water cooling systems. California, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Oregon, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin offered rebates for air cooled machines and qualified individual may SAVE UP TO $500

Water cooled ice makers waste a lot of water, but they do use less energy. I recommend to use water cooled ice machines where water and sewer utilities are cheap or if you leave in hot areas where air cooled ice making equipment will not be able to cool the ice machine effectively. But keep in mind that in hot areas waterways exposed to the sun may also get hot.

Thanks for the article. I am filing out the rebate form for my Manitowoc commercial ice machine right now. I’m eligible for the 350$ return from the state.
Thanks again!

Finally I’ve found some useful info about water cooled ice machines. Commercial ice machines are very complicated pieces of commercial kitchen equipment and must be regularly maintained and knowing all about your restaurant equipment. You’ve covered every single question that I had. Thank you very much. Keep up the good work guys!
